Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), warmly received Joan Asiimwe, the former leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), as she joined the NRM party.

Asiimwe had grown disillusioned with the FDC's ideologies, leading her to seek a new political home.

Accompanying Asiimwe were Barnabas Tinkasimire, the Member of Parliament for Buyaga West constituency, and other local leaders from Kitagwenda and Kamwenge districts.

During the event held at the NRM party offices on Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Nakasero Kampala, the Secretary-General officially welcomed Asiimwe to the ruling NRM, presenting her with the NRM constitution, manifesto, and branded shirts.

Todwong urged her to familiarize herself with the party's core principles and emphasized the NRM's focus on addressing issues that impact the masses.

"Congratulations on your wise decision to join the NRM. Our party's strength lies in our collective efforts to tackle matters that affect our people. We prioritize topics that unite, rather than divide our citizens," Todwong expressed.

"I encourage you to study and comprehend our party's ideology, and I invite you to actively engage in our party's activities," he added.

Asiimwe, in her remarks, cited her belief in the NRM's principles, values, and vision for both the young and old generations as the reason behind her decision to join.

"I firmly support the NRM's principles, values, and objectives, and I am prepared to contribute to our country's progress through meaningful political involvement," she stated.

"I left the FDC due to a loss of direction and purpose within the party," she further explained.
